SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It appears as though two Syracuse University football recruits will not be with the team in the fall. SU officials say quarterback Ashton Broyld and running back Tyree Smallwood are not enrolled in the Summer Start program. They are the only two incoming student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent who are not enrolled in the program.
Officials are not commenting on why they are not enrolled, but say it does not have to do with any legal issues.
Broyld, a former Rochester High School standout, pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge last week in Rochester City Court. The charge stemmed from an incident in March when police say he dropped his pants and exposed himself to a crowd after he fouled out of a basketball game. He was sentenced to community service for the plea.
Smallwood was a star athlete at Cornwall High School in the Hudson Valley. He chose SU over offers from Michigan, Maryland and Cincinnati.
