JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- An investigation is being launched into the actions of an off-duty deputy from Jefferson County. The board of legislators met for a special session Tuesday night to discuss the actions of Deputy Adam Hallett and the Sheriff's Department as a whole.

Following an executive meeting, they voted unanimously to have an external investigation conducted.

Deputy Hallett, who was off duty at the time, was cited with an open container after he was found asleep in his patrol car back in December.

The board of legislators asked that the county attorney prepare a resolution requesting an outside investigation surrounding these incidents.

Sheriff John Burns presented a finalized report about personnel matters within his department at the special session.

"I gave my report to the incident on December 1st involving Deputy Hallett and they are discussing it at this time," Jefferson County Sheriff John P. Burns.

The board has recessed until next week where they will discuss further action.
