MASSENA, N.Y. -- The search on the Grasse River in Massena has been called off, with still no sign of a missing ice fisherman.

Around 11 p.m. Monday, 911 received a call about a man who had not come home from an ice fishing trip. The Massena Fire Department searched the river until about 3 a.m.

Then Tuesday morning, the St. Lawrence County dive team returned to the scene with the help of local fire departments. But after another unsuccessful day of searching, they were forced to stop for the day.

At this point, officials are not saying much about the victim.

"At this time, I cannot let you know the name. All we do know is that it was one individual going out ice fishing," said Massena Fire Chief Tom Miller.

Authorities say the man was on a snowmobile when he went through the ice. They found the snowmobile at the bottom of the river about 18 feet down.
