SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- While many people have spent the last few days trying to get rid of the snow and wishing for spring, an adventurous group of friends decided to turn the piles of white into an addition in their front yard.

A group of people living on Spring Street in Syracuse started the project after the big storm that hit mid-week. The six hour project started out as a smaller wall, which ended up getting knocked down during the night. So Saturday, the group decided to go big, building a six foot high snow fort that takes up most of their front yard.

They say the fort, which includes a fire pit and some deck furniture, may expand in the coming days.

"As long as the weather holds up and it stays nice and it keeps snowing, we're probably going to expand this bad boy and make it a little bigger and just enjoy it while it lasts. Last winter, we didn't have any snow, so we're going to take advantage of it today. We even got the neighbors started a little bit," Dennis Lingel said.

While they didn't divulge all their secrets, the group did say they were able to form the blocks using a cooler lined with vegetable oil. They're hoping with a little luck and care, the fort will stay around until March.
