OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- People returned home to the Village of Phoenix after a gas line issue forced evacuations and closed roads.

The leak happened at a substation along Chestnut Street that mixes natural gas with a separate chemical. No illnesses were reported in that area.

The fire department says the situation is under control, but investigators aren't sure what is leaking from the pipes.

Dan Dunn, the Phoenix Fire Deputy Chief said, “I couldn't tell you which one it was, except that the way it was coming off and the force it was coming off we felt it was the natural gas end of it itself."

National Grid said there were no service interruptions during the incident. The line causing the problem was owned by a separate company, National Fuel. Roads including 481 have reopened.
