CANTON, N.Y. -- A Canton based company is hoping to double in size, thanks to a recent merger with a Michigan company.

Engineering consultant company Burley and Guminiak announced Wednesday it will be merging with C2AE. The merger will allow the North Country company to expand and they hope to double the size of their workforce within the next five years.

The company says they try to recruit local people who went to local colleges. Both company founders, Tim Burley and Robert Guminiak, are Clarkson alumni.

State Senator Patty Ritchie helped finalize the merger and said this can be a beacon of hope for other companies that are struggling.

"The fact that they are talking about hiring new employees, I think it shows when you work hard there are still opportunities to grow here in New York," said State Senator Patty Ritchie.

The company said it may also open more offices in New York in the coming years.
