FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- It's official. Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division will have a new commander Monday.

Major General Mark Milley has only been at Drum for a year, but Monday morning, he will hand over command to Major General Stephen Townsend in a Change of Command Ceremony.

Milley is also set for a promotion to become a Lieutenant General when he takes command at Fort Hood in Texas.

Major General Townsend comes to Fort Drum from Washington where he was working with the Joint Staff as director of the Pakistan/Afghanistan Coordination Cell.

Townsend has spent time on Drum before, serving in the early 2000s as both a battalion commander and the 10th Mountain's Assistant Chief of Staff.
