Man charged for stealing from county funds

LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former Lewis County employee has been accused of abusing his power and stealing from the county.

Sheriff's deputies say Robert Diehl, 43, created a fake purchase order. He allegedly used the money to buy stone products and used them at his own home.

Diehl was the trail coordinator for the recreation department. He's been charged with official misconduct, grand larceny and filing a false instrument.

Diehl was arraigned in the Village of Lowville. The former county employee was released from custody until his next court appearance.
