BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- With Veterans Day just around the corner, a Binghamton school is taking the chance to remind students that it is not just another day off from school. Students at MacArthur Elementary prepared a presentation of poems, songs, and art projects that they showcased for a group of veterans that came to the school on Friday.

According organizers, they have done this event every day, and it has proven to be a great teaching tool for all of the students.

"We try very hard to make sure that every year we really do this event to make sure we are really educating the kids, because there are several of our students who have not experienced it, and if you have not lived it, you definitely are not aware of what people go through," said Jennifer Kelly, 5th grade teacher.

This year's assembly was held at Saint Thomas Aquinas, where the MacArthur students have been attending class since they were displaced from last year's flooding.
