Dion dazzles in NBA debut
CLEVELAND, N.Y. - Former SU basketball backup extraordinaire Dion Waiters started his NBA debut and scored 17 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 94-84 opening night win over the Washington Wizards Tuesday night.
Waiters scored his first NBA points on a breakaway dunk 90 seconds into the game and added a four-point play to put the Cavs ahead for good in the fourth quarter. The onetime Orange guard also added three steals and two rebounds in the victory beginning to quiet his critics who questioned his being worth the fourth overall pick in last June's draft.
Waiters and the Cavs continue their homestand with the Chicago Bulls Friday night.
