Four shootings within five hour period in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A violent afternoon and evening in Syracuse on Tuesday. Police say they are investigating four shootings in a five hour time period.

The first incident happened at 2:30 p.m. on the corner of Oakwood and Raynor Avenue. Investigators say Stacey Cheek, 24, was in his car when the vehicle was hit. Cheek was injured by broken glass and was not hit by a bullet.

A second shooting was reported around 7:30 p.m. on Midland Avenue, near the corner of West Kennedy. Police say Mario Leslie, 20, heard gunshots and was hit in the ankle, but never saw the shooters.

Minutes later, police also got several reports of shots fired along Gifford Street. Shell casings were found, but no one was injured.

The most serious shooting happened at 7:40 p.m. along the 400 block of Oakwood Avenue. Investigators say two men busted into 42-year-old John Moore's home. After a struggle, Moore was shot.

Moore was rushed to Upstate University Hospital for emergency surgery.
