NEW HARTFORD, N.Y.-- While most high school marching bands are busy getting ready for next weekend's State Field Band Championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, a few talented local musicians are getting ready for an even bigger show.

Ten New York high school band members have been selected for the All-American Marching Band. The Army is touring high schools this week and next week officially inviting the students to play the half-time show at the All-American Bowl in January.

Students auditioned by video tape and they'll have to periodically update the band on their progress with the music the same way. If they meet all of the requirements, the Army will fly the students down to San Antonio for the game.

"I'm so excited," said New Hartford selectee Samantha Hollister. "I've never been to San Antonio. I've never been to Texas. I'm excited to see new places, new people and all that. I'm a little bit nervous to fly on the plane though. I've only flown on a plane once."

Only about 50 students nationwide have been named for the 2013 All-American Marching Band.

New York's All-American Band Members include:

  • Melisa Brown- Brentwood High School

  • Christian Crawford- Brentwood High School
