UNTIED STATES -- Newsweek has announced it will end its print publication in 2013. The 80-year-old weekly magazine will put out its last edition on December 31st.
At this point there is no word on exactly how many jobs will be cut. But, the company says it will keep its online publication, and it will require a subscription.
National publications aren't the only ones making tough cutbacks. The Syracuse Post-Standard had to make a similar decision to decrease publication as well. The paper's editor spoke about Newsweek's decision, and he says it was only a matter of time.
"I'm not surprised that they're suspending or stopping publication. I think those news weeklies have had it a lot harder than newspapers have and they're just isn't much of a reason for them to exist anymore," said Stephen Rogers, Syracuse Post-Standard publisher.
The Post-Standard is scaling back to only three print editions a week come January, while increasing its online presence through Syracuse.com.
