NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- No more Big Gulps in the Big Apple. New York City's Board of Health overwhelmingly approved a ban of super-sized sugary drinks.
Starting in the spring, drinks will be limited to 16 ounces in restaurants, cafeterias and concession stands.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and health advocates say soda and sugar are the leading causes of obesity. Critics of the new ban say it's not the city government's place to limit how much of something people can buy.
Soda makers also say the plan unfairly singles out soft drinks as fat culprits, and may file a lawsuit against the measure.
