Oswego soldier dies in Afghanistan

AFGHANISTAN -- A soldier from Oswego has died in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says Specialist Kyle Rookey, 23, died Sunday from a non-combat related incident.

Rookey had been stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He was a 2007 graduate of Oswego High School and had been in the Army since 2011.

Rookey’s honors included a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon and an Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

No other information has been released about his death or when his body will be returned home.
