Man sentenced for selling counterfeit goods

NORTH COUNTRY, N.Y. -- The operator of three stores in Watertown and Massena has been sentenced for trafficking counterfeit goods.

Cengiz Gulbay, 38, was sentenced to three years probation, 120 hours of community service, a $100 special assessment and a $4,000 fine.

Gulbay operated Cool Cellular Accessories in the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown and two stores at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall in Massena, selling high end handbags, scarves and jewelry, which turned out to be fake.

Detectives seized almost $8,000 worth of merchandise.

As part of his sentence, Gulbay will have to pay $8,000 in restitution to his victims.
