DANSVILLE, N.Y. -- FAA and NTSB officials continue to investigate a deadly glider crash on Saturday in Livingston County. It happened just outside of the Dansville Airport.
Sheriff's Deputies said James Rizzo, 66, was killed when his glider crashed in a field near Zerfass Road and Meter Road. He was taken to Noyes Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff's Deputies are still investigating what exactly happened to cause the crash.
"It would have landed back at the airport, at which point into his flight, we don't know. We are completing our investigation with the FAA as well as members of the Soaring Club. In this setting, there is not radio communication with the tower. There are are data collection systems within the glider that will be followed on with by the FAA," explained James Szczesniak, Livingston County Undersheriff.
Rizzo was a member of the Finger Lakes Soaring Club, which is based out of the Dansville Airport.
