ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was at Clarkson University Friday. She got a glimpse of some research projects students and faculty members have been working on.
Gillibrand also proposed new piece legislation that would provide additional funding to colleges and universities to help innovators move forward and make their products a reality. It's called the "America's Innovate Act"
"We can see talent and innovation every single day but unless we have the type of support an incubator provides to help take these ideas from a concept into a commercialized product. You don't have the possibility of job creation you would have otherwise," Gillibrand said.
The legislation would provide a grant pool for colleges to apply for. The money could be used for anything pertaining to the product including testing or hiring staff.
Gillibrand says she's hoping the new bill will be voted on by the end of the year.
