ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The storm that came through Potsdam two weeks ago caused a lot of damage, but no injuries. St. Lawrence County’s new Emergency Services Director says it was a good test run.
Only being on the job for three months, the storm gave him the chance to see how all the different agencies work together. Joseph Gilbert says many lessons were learned that he’ll be able to apply to future emergencies, including issues with communication to the volunteers and to the community. But overall, he says the storm response was a success.
"You're never really prepared for any crisis, I guess that's why they call them crisis. However, we instituted some changes across the county that put us in a better position than we would have been otherwise," said Gilbert.
Gilbert says since he stepped in as the Emergency Services Director, he’s continuing to implement more training courses to prepare volunteers for any potential emergencies.
