POTSDAM, N.Y. -- One of the bigger pieces of debris from Tuesday’s storms in Potsdam currently rests in the Raquette River.

Multiple agencies at the local and state level came together Wednesday to create a plan to get the ACE Hardware roof out of the water.

When the roof came off during the storm, it took power lines with it. National Grid was able to safely get the electrical lines out of the water.

Now, local emergency services will work with the Department of Transportation and the Coast Guard to put a boom in the water and remove the roof piece by piece.

"Recovery and disaster recovery crisis prevention is a team sport. And it takes all levels of help, including private sector the utilities, local government, our volunteer services, county and in this case, state too, to make it all happen," said SLC Emergency Services Director Joe Gilbert.

Officials say it is essential to get the roof out of the river soon before it gets stuck in the Potsdam Water System or the hydro dam.
