ELMIRA, N.Y. -- For months, members of the Elmira City Council have been making an effort to clean up many of the city's parks and one in particular receiving a lot of attention is Grove Park.
About two years ago, the pavilion in the park was lost to a fire, but now, city officials say not only is a new pavilion taking shape, but people should expect to see new additions soon.
New playground equipment is expected to be installed this fall, along with new benches, grills and picnic tables. And officials also say efforts will be taken to ensure the park stays clean and crime free.
"As we have improved every park, we have put cameras in those parks so it has helped with lowering vandalism. Some people that have vandalized the parks that have already been renovated have been caught. So, it is always a good thing when we can take care of products that we put out there," Elmira Mayor Sue Skidmore said.
The new pavilion will be open to the public sometime this fall, but is not expected to be totally complete until next year.
