NEW YORK -- The State Museum is looking back at the War of 1812, 200 years later. The museum has launched an interactive website highlighting New York's role in the conflict.

The United States declared war on Great Britain two centuries ago this month. That was followed by two years of fighting in the western and northern fringes of the state, along the shores of lakes Erie, Ontario and Champlain as well as the Niagara and St. Lawrence rivers.

The new website features a timeline, biographies and links to resources. Visit http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/Warof1812 for more information.
