MASSENA, N.Y. -- Anyone passing by Massena’s public library may notice a sign in the window saying that the building is closed. But it’s only temporarily.
Over the past year, a number of personal reasons have forced board members and the library director to resign from their positions, leaving only one board member left standing. Because of a lack of leadership at the library, the town board decided to close the facility until new board members can be put in place.
“We have one of the best, if not the best public library, in our minds, in Northern New York. So yeah, we want to get it open as soon as possible. Members of the community are concerns about that and saying hey, when is the library going to re-open. So we’re going to do it as quickly as we can,” Massena Town Supervisor Joe Gray said.
Gray says many people have expressed interest in the available positions. A town board meeting will be held on Wednesday to hopefully appoint new board members.
Gray says the library should only be closed for a few days.
