UTICA, N.Y. -- The state says it will invest $35 million into upgrades of the North-South Arterial in Utica. The renovation project is expected to create 600 jobs.

The project is the largest in the region’s proposed capital construction program. It involves replacing the viaduct of State Routes 5, 8 and 12, which will provide an improved connection to the recently announced Nanotech facility to be built at SUNY IT and it will also line West Utica and the Downtown business areas.

The renovations will provide connections to the Thruway and the Adirondacks, which will help facilitate the flow of business to and from Utica.

The two phase project will be completed between 2012 and 2014, with the first phase costing ten million dollars.
