ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- More than 60 North Country leaders gathered at Clarkson University Wednesday to participate in a dialogue about advancing education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The initiative, also known as STEM, is one to help build a regional workforce that is capable in competing in a technology driven economy. Leaders in education, business, government, and community organizations all gathered to discuss what they can do for students.
Organizers said they believe by being more connected, the students will have a better chance in their education.
Margaret Ashida of the Empire STEM Learning Network said, “And what we hope to come out of this are people are going to volunteer their time, their talent, and maybe their treasure. Helping to design what a more connected system of education can be in the north country to better prepare our kids."
The dialogue was part of a statewide movement to help communities collaborate and compete through a learning network.
