WORLDWIDE -- Today is a very important holy day for Christians: it's Ash Wednesday. It marks the beginning of the Lent, or the weeks leading up to Easter.
Catholics observe the day by attending mass and receiving a mark of ash on their foreheads. Those who participate will often give up meat or a habit during lent to signify a devotion to God.
