WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- A Sackets Harbor woman has thrown her hat into the ring in the race for New York's 23rd Congressional District. Republican Kellie Greene announced her candidacy in Watertown on Wednesday.
Greene calls herself a staunch conservative, and hopes to be the name on the ticket to take on Democratic incumbent Bill Owens. But first, she'll have to win the Republican primary, likely facing Matt Doheney.
This year, that primary has been moved up considerably, and will now take place in June rather than September.
"It definitely means that I'm going to have to get out there a lot quicker. It shortens the time frame. We don't know exactly when we'll have to go on the ballot petitions, but we could argue it's probably going to be March or April, instead of when it would have been, which is June, so it's going to shorten everything," said Kellie Greene, (R) 23rd Congressional District candidate.
Greene says one advantage of an early primary is that the winner will have more time to build a campaign against Owens.
