WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- The Fort Drum soldier who escaped military custody last September and led police on a three day manhunt has been charged by state police for several burglaries in the Watertown area

After a lengthy investigation, police brought Russell Marcum, 20, back to Watertown Thursday where he was arraigned on several charges, including three counts of felony burglary stemming from thefts at two storages facilities in Watertown: U-Lock-it Storage and ABC Storage.

During the arraignment, he was also charged with burglarizing Preferred Power Sports in Watertown.

Marcum originally turned himself into police in September of last year after the manhunt for him ended in Tompkins County. At that time, he was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and fleeing a police officer.

As he awaits grand jury action on these newest charges, Marcum has been sent back to Herkimer County Jail where he faces numerous other burglary charges.
