UNITED STATES -- We're learning some of the details of the planned cuts for the U.S. Army as the Pentagon tries to save around $260 million over the next five years.

The Associated Press says the Army plans to cut 80,000 troops and reduce the number of brigades from 45 to as low as 32. It's also expected that each brigade remaining would add left over battalions, growing from 3,500 soldiers to 4,200 or 4,300.

The numbers have not been confirmed by the Pentagon, but earlier this month, President Obama and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced that a plan was near as the nation tried to balance defense needs with a fiscal budget.

At that time, Congressman Bill Owens told us he doesn't think Fort Drum will feel much effect because the agility, readiness and set up of the 10th Mountain Division is exactly what the Pentagon wants for the future.
