ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- He is the definition of a hometown hero. Brian Leonard is a running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, but his roots are here in the North Country. And every summer, he holds a football camp for pro-ball hopefuls.
The camp is one week long and is held at St. Lawrence University. The kids do drills, run scrimmages and learn hands on with the pros, such as coaches and NFL players.
The camp doesn't just work on football skills, but teaches the kids character building and family values. It's also an investment in their future.
"This camps all about is bringing football back to Upstate New York and really teaching these kids the basics of football, the love of the game again. Bringing it back to the North Country and helping this kids getting recruited also, too," Leonard said.
"All of the coaches are great. I just have to try my hardest and make sure I take what I get out of this camp," said Saranac Lake resident CJ Stewart.
The kids can have the option of going to the camp for one day or all week.
