Ogdensburg homicide

By: Brian Dwyer, News 10 Now Web Staff

Ogdensburg homicide
The day after Ogdensburg Police arrested Wayne Oxley for the murder of Bernie Trickey Jr. in Trickey's home, the neighborhood was a bit more quiet.

The 1000 block of New York Ave was back open, but a few investigators remained on scene with some patrol cars to monitor houses that were still taped off. Trickey Jr.'s body was sent to Albany for a final autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Ogdensburg Police Department continues to investigate the area.

"Statements are gonna continue throughout today, throughout this week and into next week. The houses are still secure as evidence work is still being done. We're just following every lead that comes in,” said Det. Sgt. Harry McCarthy, Ogdensburg Police.

Trickey was under electronic home monitoring when he died and according to court records, he had at least five charges against him, stemming from incidents with his ex-wife. Oxley maintains his innocence. He said he didn't kill Trickey, and even offered up another name. Ogdensburg Police are sure they have the right guy.

"The evidence and the statement. We're very confident," said McCarthy.

But where the police seem sure, the neighborhood isn't.

"I believe him. Wayne is a very polite man. Wayne is honest. Wayne has two little kids. He wouldn't do anything to put those little kids in jeopardy. I don't believe Wayne did this," said Mike Morley, neighbor.

And Morley isn't the only neighbor in the area with this opinion. We talked to two more people, who both declined to go on camera, but did tell us they knew Wayne Oxley for a very long time, and they both said they don't think he has the heart to commit such a heinous crime.

Oxley is scheduled to be in Ogdensburg City Court September 8th.
