Jefferson Community College releases a study on a grand plan for their campus - a complex that would include everything from additional space to entertainment, but it's not going to come cheap. YNN's Carmella Mataloni tells us about their multi-million dollar plan.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jefferson Community College is in the works of getting a new facility they always wanted - and more.
"We have been looking at additional classroom space, higher education center spacing in particular, as well as a field house for about five years. Then the event center component which is what was added into this feasibility study to look at it really opens up the campus even more broadly to folks in the community," said Carole McCoy, JCC President.
The college released a 90 page study on a multi-purpose facility but it comes with a multi-million dollar price tag, $44.3 million to be exact.
"We need to know that if we build it? Could it be successful? That's the best part because he said it could be," said McCoy.
Developers conducted a swat analysis, pinpointing demands in the North Country, shows and athletic events that people are willing to see and what people are willing to pay. It seems many are on board because according to the 2012 JCC Community Survey, a high level of support for the facility came from residents of Jefferson County.
"Are we going to be further ahead in five years or still be in the same spot saying "hey wouldn't it be great if we had this" so that they have that on the books, on the agenda, that's a good thing in my opinion," said Watertown resident, Phillip Jaycox.
The facility would take the place of the Whispering Pines Residential Facility. Even though there's a destination, there is still a lot of work to do.
"Now that we have all this data, it's time to start refining, talk to the community with all the various players out there and get people's opinions about does this make sense, how should we structure it, so it will be a while before we build it," said McCoy.
