Sean Gallivan, President of Green Renewables, Inc. said, “What we do here is we manufacture kiln-dried New York State specified firewood. That firewood is kiln-dried to specifications that eliminates bugs and keeps disease from spreading.”
Therefore it can be packaged and traveled quite a distance and still abide by New York State’s concerns.
Bugs like the emerald ash borer or the Asian long-horned beetle that hitchhike on things like firewood and have destroyed millions of trees.
Transporting firewood from home to a vacation home or a campsite is the suspected cause of ash tree infestations all across New York. Using kiln-dried firewood prevents that from happening.
Gallivan said, “We purchase log length firewood grade logs to our facility. At that point, they’re processed to size and they’re put in baskets. Then, they’re inserted into the kiln. At that point, they’re loaded from the kiln to a cool down building. The cool down building allows the wood to lose any moisture that was in it so it doesn’t mold when you put it in the bag.”
Approximately a 30 hour kiln time that it needs to stay in the kiln in order to make the mandates that are set forth by USDA as well as New York State.
Plus the kiln drying process offers a couple of other benefits.
Gallivan said, “What we do is we dry it down to the point that we can store a tremendous amount at our facility because we know that we won’t have any mold problems or any problems of that sort. We take more moisture out than is required and actually give more BTUs to our customers.”
So, no bugs, no mold and a hotter burning fire.
