Nearly 30 big rigs were at Burnet Park in Syracuse for the 5th annual Big Rig Day. YNN's StormChaser was one of the big rigs! Kids had a chance to climb aboard the big machines and have some fun.

The combination of almost 80 degree weather in March, SU in the playoffs and it being St. Patrick’s Day, the Syracuse St. Patrick’s Parade brought out approximately 100,000 people to downtown Syracuse. The YNN StormChaser, news car and over 30 YNN staff members participated in the day’s festivities. Each year we hear the crowd shout-outs for “YNN!” and they love the ever-popular green beads that we hand out and this year was no different. It was a beautiful day for a parade and YNN once again felt the “love” from our community.

There was beautiful weather and huge crowd of people for the Binghamton St. Patrick's Parade on March 3rd. The YNN staff walked in the parade and greeted fair-goers with thousands of green beads!

A record number of hot air balloons came out for this year’s Balloons and Bounty Festival at Wolf Oak Acres in Oneida. The YNN StormChaser was on hand giving kids the opportunity to record their very own YNN Weathercast. YNN joined almost 50 local vendors for a great weekend. The amazing weather enticed thousands of Central New Yorker’s to join hot air balloonists from all over the country. The event featured 20 hot air balloons which launched 5 times over the weekend, even offering rides to event attendees.

The 2011 Syracuse Festival of Races was held October 2nd, at the Manley Field House. Thousands of people turned out on a very rainy Sunday morning. The YNN StormChaser was there to greet runners when they finished the race. While entrant numbers were down for the 2011 races, that didn’t stop runners from breaking national records with records being set in the men’s and women’s 5K runs, including the national record for a 93 year old runner by Henry Sypniewski.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s was held October 1 at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. A rainy day didn’t keep the walkers away from this important event. To date over $110,000 has been raised from this year’s walk to help fight this disease. Donations are being accepted until November 1. The Syracuse Walk to End Alzheimer’s is part of a national effort that has raised more than $347 million in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease. Hundreds of people joined YNN and the YNN StormChaser for the third annual Hope for Heather Teal Ribbon Run. The event was held at Syracuse's Inner Harbor on September 25th to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer. The event, which featured a 5K Run and Walk and also a 100 yard stiletto dash, raises money for education and outreach about the disease, which affects more than 20,000 women each year. The YNN StormChaser was on hand for this year’s March of Dimes Bikers for Babies held this past weekend. Bikers started from locations all around the state and ended the ride at Jamesville Beach Park. YNN’s Traffic Anchor, Lacey Leondardi, kicked off the event in Syracuse and the YNN StormChaser gave kids the chance to record their own pretend YNN Weathercasts. Dinosaur BBQ was in the park selling picnic lunches. Over 450 bikers showed up at the Syracuse ride alone! The mission of the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies is to one day ensure all babies are born healthy.

YNN was a proud sponsor for this year’s Troop Ride in the Southern Tier. The YNN StormChaser was on hand for all the festivities. Almost 500 bikers participated in this year’s event! All proceeds from the Troop Ride were donated to the USO.

YNN and Time Warner Cable were proud sponsors of the 4th Annual Northeast Jazz and Wine Festival in Clinton Square. The YNN StormChaser stopped by the festival on Friday, July 29. The YNN StormChaser gave kids the opportunity to pretend to be a YNN Weathercaster and record their own weathercast and take it home on a free YNN flashdrive! Three live music stages and over 1,000 types of wine to taste led to this event having another successful year.

Another year, another great Harborfest in Oswego. YNN was the exclusive television media partner for the event this year. The YNN StormChaser was there for the fun on Thursday, July 28 and Sunday, July 31. The StormChaser was in Breitbeck Park letting kids record their own YNN Weathercast. YNN even broadcasted the fireworks live on Saturday night. A great time was had by all!

The YNN StormChaser spent the weekend at the 12th annual Syracuse Nationals in what is expected to be a record-setting year for both attendance and show cars. The YNN StormChaser along with Time Warner Cable gave out free giveaways and the StormChaser gave kids the chance to record their very own YNN Weathercast. Organizers expect attendance figures to break 80,000 with around 7,500 show cars. A Happy Days reunion featured Henry Winkler, Cindy Williams and Erin Moran. The TV legends were on hand to sign autographs and greet event goers. Excellent weather made this year one for the record books.

The YNN StormChaser took part along with about 50 other entrants in this year’s Oswego Fourth of July Parade. The YNN StormChaser was decked out in red, white and blue to celebrate America in this yearly tradition in downtown Oswego. A great lineup made this year’s parade another success.

The YNN StormChaser was on hand for the first ever “Made In New York” summer festival at the Madison Barracks in Sackets Harbor held July 2. This event showcased products and services made in New York including locally grown produce, farm products, organic fruits and vegetables, arts, crafts, wines and crafted beers. Thousands of people attended the event including about 1,500 pre-sale tickets. Many children took advantage of the YNN StormChaser and created their own YNN weathercast. Organizers of the event said the excellent turnout should guarantee the Made In New York festival will be around for years to come.

The YNN StormChaser stopped by the Oswego County Fair on June 30. Excellent weather brought huge crowds for the first day of the fair. The YNN StormChaser was located right next to the midway and gave kids a chance to record their very own YNN Weathercast! Thursday evening featured a parade through Sandy Creek. The YNN StormChaser was in the parade with over 60 other participants. The evening concluded with an excellent fireworks display. A great time was had by all.

The YNN StormChaser joined local restaurants and wineries at The Great New York State Food and Wine Festival June 18th and 19th in Clayton, N.Y. The YNN StormChaser gave kids the chance to record their very own YNN Weathercast as they went into the event. Thousands of people and almost 70 vendors from all over New York were on hand. The event showcased New York produced products from food and wine to cheese and ice cream. A great time was had by all!
