SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A judge said there's enough evidence in an alleged murder-for-hire plot in Seneca County to send the case against the defendant to a grand jury.

Michael Hoffman appeared in Waterloo Village Court Wednesday. He is charged with conspiracy and solicitation. State police said Hoffman agreed to pay an undercover trooper $2,000 to have one man killed, and $1,000 to have another man's legs broken.

According to court testimony from the trooper, Hoffman told him he was having an affair with a housemate's wife, and that he wanted him to "rough up" her husband.

The trooper testified Hoffman wanted another man, who he thought was also having sex with the woman, killed.

Hoffman is being held at the Seneca County jail.
